Como capitalised on defensive mistakes to register an important 2-1 away win over Napoli in an early contest between sides with top-four ambitions, with Martin Baturina and Tasos Douvikas getting the goals.

The Partenopei made two changes to the team that had defeated Genoa 2-0, as Matias Olivera and, rather unexpectedly, Noa Lang came in for Leonardo Spinazzola and Alisson Santos, with the winger having been placed on the transfer list. Kevin De Bruyne was again only fit enough for a place on the bench, while Alessandro Buongiorno and Luca Marianucci were unavailable through injury. Como had begun their campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Udinese, once more naming summer arrivals Trevoh Chalobah, Yan Couto, Bruno Kaiki and Luis Milla in the starting line-up.

Como saw plenty of the ball in the opening stages, but Olivera pulled it back from the by-line for a chaotic scramble inside the six-yard box that Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa and Scott McTominay were both unable to convert.

Lucas Da Cunha had an effort deflected wide and Alex Valle then failed to direct his header on target from the resulting corner, but Como made the breakthrough in the 16th minute.

Assane Diao burst away from Olivera on the right and squared it for Martin Baturina, who in one fluid movement turned and fired into the near bottom corner from 12 yards.

Lang really ought to have levelled almost immediately, but he glanced a free header inches over from a Matteo Politano cross. Como then squandered a huge chance on the counter with a five-on-three situation, appearing to try and pass the ball into the net.

However, Anguissa then got himself into a dreadful mess while trying to play out from the back, producing a poor back-pass towards Amir Rrahmani. Baturina intercepted it and teed up Tasos Douvikas for a simple finish from inside the area.

Yan Couto recovered brilliantly to make an excellent tackle on Hojlund, while Napoli’s appeals for a penalty after a nudge on Lang were waved away, but Como still created two major chances in first-half stoppage time.

Alex Meret sprang across to fingertip Baturina’s header over the bar, but from the resulting corner he was fortunate when Nico Paz’s header slipped under his body and was trapped before it could roll over the line.

Those changes sparked a spell of pressure and possession from the home side, but Butez was sharp off his line to read the danger and beat Hojlund to the ball.
