Increasing number of diseases and traditional knowledge

We are rapidly moving towards a sick society. Despite spending lakhs of rupees on medical treatment, we fail to understand the root causes of the disease. If we follow our diet and daily routine as per our religious texts, we can remain healthy even amidst the challenges of modern life.

Every city in India is full of medicine shops, pathology testing centers and hospitals, which is an indication that we are becoming vulnerable to diseases. Whereas the truth is that if we lived our lives according to our religious texts, we could remain healthy.

For thousands of years, sages and sages composed religious texts based on their experiences, which varied over time. In Nemisharanya, eighty-eight thousand sages under the leadership of sage Shaunaka discussed the knowledge and re-established it in the society.

These knowledge had a deep impact on the society, leading to the establishment of many traditions, such as preparing special dishes on Holi and consuming special diets on various festivals. All these are according to religious texts, which provide us stability and health.

Diversity of traditional diet

The diversity in our daily diet is also linked to religious texts. Like consumption of pulses, rice, bread and vegetables, who decided all this? Making special dishes on various festivals, like urad dal pakoda in Shraddha, is all a part of our tradition.

Idli-Dosa in South India, Varan-Bhat in Maharashtra, and Parathas and Lassi in Punjab, all are an integral part of our diet. Following these is not only tradition, but also necessary for health.

Food preparation methods, use of spices, and choice of different oils all affect our health. All this is a science, which our ancestors established.

These basic elements of our culture make India eternal. However, today we are turning away from these traditions. The influence of western culture has forced us to ridicule our customs and food instead of respecting them.

Modernity and health crisis

Today we have started considering food as just an ordinary thing, whereas it has a deep connection with health and values. This thinking has given rise to food and health crisis in the country.

We have ignored our religious scriptures and come under the influence of western market culture. The increasing trend of online food is proof of this.

The basis of this knowledge is an important book 'Aharashastra', which should be in every home. This scripture can help women to make their home healthy and happy.

Sharing an experience, an elderly woman in America said that she likes home-cooked food for her granddaughter, as market food seems tasteless. This reminds us that both taste and health of traditional food are important.
