AC Milan are close to adding a major attacking option, with Omari Hutchinson set to undergo a medical in Italy. The Nottingham Forest winger is nearing a season-long loan switch to San Siro, in a deal that would give the Rossoneri valuable long-term flexibility in the final third.

The 22-year-old wide player has already landed at Linate Airport, indicating that the move from the Premier League to Serie A is now in its final stages. Milan have acted quickly to bring in the former Chelsea and Arsenal academy talent, who is expected to complete his medical tests at the La Madonnina clinic on Monday.

As per The Athletic, the agreement has been structured as a paid loan reportedly worth €4 million, and it includes a non-compulsory purchase option valued at €40m.

New AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim is understood to have played a key role in pushing for the transfer. Amorim, who knows Hutchinson’s profile well from his time at Manchester United, is said to believe the winger’s creative qualities will thrive in a more possession-based system at San Siro.

A tactical change has left the record signing out in the cold.

Even though he joined Forest from Ipswich Town for a club-record £37.5m only a year ago, Hutchinson has found it difficult to hold down a regular starting place amid the managerial churn at the City Ground.

Hutchinson’s exit follows a disappointing beginning to the new season under Oliver Glasner. The Austrian coach, who took over from Vitor Pereira this summer, has mainly preferred a 3-4-2-1 setup that uses narrow attacking midfielders instead of conventional wingers.

In Forest’s recent 2-2 draw at Anfield, Glasner turned to Morgan Gibbs-White, Dan Ndoye and Igor Jesus in those central creative positions. As a result, Hutchinson was not even named on the bench for the trip to Liverpool, a strong sign that his future was set to be elsewhere.

It marks a rapid Forest departure for a player who had been billed as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young prospects when he arrived at the club. Although he registered eight assists and one goal in 42 appearances during the 2025-26 season, he was frequently pushed to the margins by tactical changes and internal disagreements over recruitment.

Nuno Espirito Santo notably omitted Hutchinson from the club’s Europa League squad in the opening phase of that competition, although the winger did later play an important part in Forest staying up and then reaching the semi-finals under Pereira.

A fresh start now awaits the England Under-21 international.

For Hutchinson, a move to San Siro offers an opportunity to stabilise his career after an unsettled spell. Since leaving Arsenal for Chelsea in 2022 and then enjoying a successful loan period at Ipswich, the repeated changes have disrupted his search for a long-term base.

Despite being tied to Forest on a long-term contract until 2030, his shortage of minutes under Glasner - underlined by just an 11-minute cameo in the Carabao Cup defeat to Leeds United - made a transfer increasingly unavoidable.

The Rossoneri believe that a new environment, along with the greater technical demands of Italy’s top division, can help unlock the ability that convinced Forest to break their transfer record to sign him.
