Disaster risk from flash floods to landslides in 18 states

Rain continues in many states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Odisha. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of light to heavy rains in 18 states. According to the Meteorological Department, the low pressure area formed near North-West Bay of Bengal and West Bengal-North Odisha coast is still active. Its impact may increase rainfall activity in eastern and central India. Due to heavy rainfall, low-lying areas may be inundated and flash floods may occur. The risk of landslides and mudslides has also increased in hilly areas. IMD has issued rain warning for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala.

Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are on alert for heavy rains today. Rain expected in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Jaunpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Bhadohi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Meerut, Shamli, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Rambad, Ambhalpur, Bijanpur is There are also chances of thunder and lightning in some areas.
