The demand for sub-4 meter compact SUV segment is growing fastest in the Indian automobile market. In this segment, Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx and Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Taisor are two such vehicles, which are based on the same platform (Shared Platform) and powertrain. These two vehicles, developed under the global partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, look quite similar, but there are significant differences in their branding, exterior design, warranty package and variant structure. What is the difference between design and exterior?

The overall body shell and silhouette of both the vehicles are similar, but there is a difference in the front grille and lighting setup. The Maruti Frontx gets a Grand Vitara inspired chrome finish front grille and 3-point NEXA signature DRLs. At the same time, Toyota Taisor has been provided with twin-LED DRLs along with Toyota’s signature honeycomb grille.

Talking about the side profile, both the cars get 16-inch alloy wheels, but the design theme of both is different. In the rear profile, both the front and the Tiger have a connected LED taillight, but the internal graphic of the Tiger’s taillight looks slightly different.

Engine and Performance: Same powertrain in both cars

The same engine options are offered in both the SUVs:

In terms of cabin, both the vehicles get premium features like 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera, head-up display (HUD), automatic climate control, rear AC vents and cruise control. In terms of safety, both have 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Warranty and service package: Toyota gets the advantage

Warranty proves to be an important aspect while taking the purchase decision:

  • Maruti Fronx: Maruti gives a standard warranty of 2 years or 40,000 kilometers (whichever is earlier).
  • Toyota Taisor: Toyota offers a better standard warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000 kilometers on its Taisor.

Price and Conclusion: Which SUV is better for you?

The ex-showroom price of Maruti Front starts from around ₹7.51 lakh and goes up to ₹13.04 lakh. At the same time, the ex-showroom price of Toyota Tijar starts from around ₹ 7.74 lakh and goes up to ₹ 13.04 lakh. The base variant of Tijar is priced marginally higher than the Franxx.
