If you think of making something new and healthy for breakfast every morning, then definitely try Moong Dal Appe. It does not take much time to prepare and as it is prepared with less oil, it is also a light and nutritious breakfast. Moong dal is considered a good source of protein, while vegetables increase both taste and nutrition.

Ingredients for Moong Dal Appe

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal, soaked for 2-3 hours or overnight
  • 2 tbsp semolina
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 1 finely chopped capsicum
  • 2-3 finely chopped green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ¼ tsp baking soda or eno
  • salt as per taste
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander
  • 1-2 tbsp oil

Method to make Moong Dal Appe

Step 1: Prepare Moong Dal Batter

First of all, take out the water from soaked moong dal. Now put the lentils in the mixer. Add ginger, green chilli and some water to it and grind it. Keep in mind that the batter should not be too thin. Prepare its thick and smooth paste.

Step 2: Add vegetables to the batter

Now take out the lentil paste in a big bowl. Add semolina to it and beat it well. After this add finely chopped onion, capsicum, cumin, green coriander and salt as per taste.

Mix all the ingredients well and prepare a uniform batter.

Step 3: Add Eno to make Appe spongy

Add baking soda or eno to the batter just before making the appe. Add a few drops of water over it and mix gently in one direction. Due to this, the batter will swell slightly and the appe will become soft and spongy from inside.

Step 4: Pour batter into appe pan

Now place the appe pan on the gas and let it heat well. Apply a little oil to all the molds of the pan and grease them.

After this, put about one spoon of batter in each mold. Be careful not to fill the mold completely, as the appe will swell slightly during cooking.

Step 5: Cook on both sides

Now cover the appe pan with a lid and cook on low to medium flame for about 3-4 minutes.

When the appe becomes golden and slightly crispy from below, turn them with the help of a spoon. Cook from the other side also without covering for about 2-3 minutes.

When the appe becomes golden from both the sides, take them out in a plate.
