Cyber thugs have now discovered a new way to make people their victims. This time, people are being made victims of cyber fraud by using pornographic content as a weapon. This new method of cyber fraud in the name of apps with porn content is now in the news and the government has also become alert. The National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit, working under the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center of the Union Home Ministry, has observed a rise in financial frauds being committed through such Android apps.
News agency ANI has told in one of its reports that these apps are being made available to the people through social media ads. In this report, information has been given about the use of apps by cyber criminals with names like Night Play, Reloop, Kiss, Vimo and Vixa.
Ads on Facebook-Instagram
In this new way, fraud starts with social media ads. An ad claiming to show obscene content appears on Facebook or Instagram. After clicking on this ad, the person is sent to a website where he is asked to download an app to view the content. After this it asks him to download the APK file of the app and install it on the mobile. In this way, your APK file is installed in people's phones. According to the warning of the Home Ministry, these apps can actually be a threat to people's safety.
Games while installing
Whenever we install any app in our mobile, that app takes some permissions from us. We give permissions to that app as per our wish and then that app works on the basis of those. Apps used for cyber fraud also play at this time. After the app is installed on the mobile, it may ask for many types of permissions. These may also include such permission, through which he can also install any other similar app in the mobile. After getting this permission, harmful apps control the mobile to a great extent. Through this, cyber criminals can interfere in the use of the phone and commit fraud as per their convenience.
Danger from VPN too
The Home Ministry has also stated in the advisory that some such apps can install VPN in mobile. Through this, mobile internet can be sent through an unsafe route, which can be used for harmful or illegal activities. Some apps can also prevent the user from removing them from the mobile in the normal way, which further increases the risk. That means you can completely lose control of your mobile.
What to do to avoid it?
Cyber security agencies have advised not to download APK files from any unknown website, social media ad or suspicious link. Install apps only from trusted sources and do not give unnecessary permissions to any unknown app in your mobile. Also keep checking for unknown apps already present in the mobile.
complain here
If you accidentally become a victim of such cyber fraud, then you should immediately report it so that the criminals can be caught in time. Cyber crime complaint can be made on 1930 or lodged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Cyber criminals are making people victims of fraud in new ways every day. In such a situation, you should be alert to keep yourself safe and avoid clicking on unknown links.
