Pakistan Idol finally came to an end after a months-long gap, with Hira Qaiser lifting the trophy of Season 2 at the grand finale on Sunday.
Hira, who belongs to Faisalabad, took home a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million. She impressed the judges with her performances throughout the show and managed to win the title.
The winner walked onto the stage holding her toddler and was awarded the trophy by show host Shafaat Ali, as she became emotional during the special moment.
Coming from a middle-class, conservative family, Hira thanked everyone in an emotional speech. She said, “I have no words. I want to say my heartfelt thanks to Pakistan Idol. I am very, very happy.”
For the finale, Hira performed a song by Mekaal Hasan and received praise from the judges’ panel, which included Atif Aslam. However, her victory also sparked mixed reactions online.
Many social media users criticised the judges’ decision to crown Hira as the winner. Some netizens described her as a monotone singer who mostly relies on a high-pitched voice.
They also pointed out that she mostly chose folk and Punjabi songs for her performances, while claiming that she did not have the same grip on Urdu songs.
Several viewers also felt that Taran Naseem from Karachi was more deserving of the title and believed she should have won the competition.
A critic wrote, “No hate to Hira Qaiser and she is a good singer but I feel she was mostly limited to one style. There were other singers who were more versatile and deserved to win Pakistan Idol.”
Another expressed his feelings as, “They should have let the audience decide the winner of Pakistan idol. Tarab Nafees would have been the obvious winner.”
Some netizens were left shocked and disappointed by the decision.
Another penned his opinion as,” Hira Qaiser takes home the Pakistan Idol Season 2 trophy! Her victory has thrilled many fans, but others feel Turab was the rightful winner. The finale has certainly given social media plenty to talk about!”
Sighting the limitations of Hira’s singing genre, another wrote, “Tarab Nafees or Maham Tahir should have won. She has alot of limitation in the genre she sing in. Sadly, she will not survive post Pakistan Idol. Even Samya and Aryan will survive post Pakistan Idol time.”
However, not everyone has a different opinion over judges decision. Many praise Hira’s performance in finale episode that won her the title.
