Electric vehicles are gaining popularity in India and around the globe. Surprisingly, Indian brands like Mahindra and Tata have managed to come up with great value-for-money products in the market. Both brands are aggressive about their electric vehicles and are expanding their lineups over the years. Here we have a list of 5 such new electric vehicles that are coming to the Indian market soon.

After the Sierra, the next electric SUV to come from Tata is going to be the Safari EV. Tata is likely to launch the Safari EV around the festive season this year. This will be Tata’s flagship SUV and will also be its first 7-seater electric SUV in the market.

The exterior design of the Safari EV is expected to remain similar to the ICE version but with EV-specific changes such as a revised front end with a closed grille, aerodynamic wheels, updated LED tail lamps and more.

It is also expected to retain premium features such as leatherette upholstery, memory seats, a panoramic sunroof, seat ventilation and more. Tata may also introduce a triple-display setup similar to the one showcased in the Sierra EV.

The SUV is expected to be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery-pack options. The larger battery pack, as seen in the Harrier EV, offers a claimed range of around 622–627 km, while the smaller battery pack delivers around 538 km. Higher variants may also come with an AWD setup.

Tata is also preparing to enter the premium EV space with the Avinya range. These upcoming premium EVs will reportedly be sold through a separate retail network. We even saw a near-production-ready version around the Bharat Mobility Expo last year.

It was initially rumoured that the Avinya would use Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA platform, but the latest reports suggest that the EV will use the Freelander platform, developed jointly by JLR and Chinese automaker Chery. The Tata Avinya X will be a premium crossover available in 5-, 6- and 7-seater configurations. It is likely to be nearly five metres long and will come with advanced features beyond what we currently see in Tata models.

The BE 07 is a brand-new EV that Mahindra is currently working on. The company has already started testing this upcoming EV, and it has been spotted testing multiple times. Like the other EVs, the production version of the BE 07 is also expected to stay close to the concept design.

The BE 07 will be a mid-size electric SUV that will rival models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Toyota’s upcoming EVs. Compared to rivals like the Creta Electric, the BE 07 is expected to be larger in dimensions, offering better space and a longer wheelbase.

It is likely to come loaded with premium features like a triple-screen setup, large glass roof, frameless doors, Level 2 ADAS and many more. Mahindra is expected to price it competitively and may offer it with 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery-pack options.

Mahindra unveiled the Thar.e concept back in 2023, and it was expected to enter production by 2026. However, the plan was delayed due to multiple reasons. The Mahindra Thar.e is a 5-door electric off-roader. It will be based on the INGLO P1 platform, which is specially designed for electric off-roaders.

We also saw the Vision T concept last year, and it seems like Mahindra might use the new NU-IQ platform to build a capable electric off-roader. The exact details about the powertrain and battery packs are yet to be revealed, and the launch is expected to happen in the coming years.

Mahindra unveiled the Vision X concept last year. It is a sub-4-metre SUV that will eventually replace the XUV 3XO. The Vision X is also based on the NU-IQ platform. It is an all-new modular, multi-energy monocoque architecture developed by Mahindra & Mahindra and designed to support both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric (EV) powertrains.

While Mahindra will launch an ICE version of the Vision X in the market, an electric version of the same SUV is also expected. While exact details about the EV are not available, it is expected to be launched sometime around 2028.
