Barcelona star Lamine Yamal on Monday added another remarkable chapter to his growing place in European football history. The latest landmark came during the Blaugrana’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano.

Hansi Flick’s side are, of course, currently in action in domestic competition. Looking to secure a third straight win at the start of the defence of their La Liga title, Barca welcomed Rayo to the Catalan capital.

After going behind early in the match, the home side responded strongly and went on to take the lead in the contest.

Lamine was central to that turnaround. After Raphinha drew Barcelona level and continued his outstanding individual start to the season, the Spanish champions’ teenage winger sensation then put his team in front.

Cutting in on to his favoured left foot inside the visitors’ penalty area, Lamine fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner at the near post. And in doing so, the Spain international created history.

Barcelona confirmed the feat with a message on their platforms:

“Lamine Yamal becomes the youngest player in the history of Europe’s top five leagues to reach 50 goals, surpassing Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.”
