Everton have reached an agreement with Monaco to sign United States striker Folarin Balogun for about £40m, with David Moyes appearing set to reshape his forward line before the transfer window closes.

Everton also remain in discussions over bringing Richarlison back from Tottenham after Manchester City agreed a £60m move for Iliman Ndiaye, a development that could pave the way for Jack Grealish to return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Balogun is expected to arrive at Everton as Beto prepares to leave, with Fiorentina having agreed a deal to sign the 28-year-old.

Balogun, a product of Arsenal’s academy, scored 19 goals for Monaco last season but did not look likely to commit to a new contract with the Ligue 1 side.

The 25-year-old was at the centre of major controversy at the World Cup this summer when his ban was suspended after United States president Donald Trump lobbied his FIFA counterpart Gianni Infantino.

Everton are also at an advanced stage in talks with City over re-signing Grealish, who spent last season on loan there, with the £100m player no longer central to Manchester City’s plans.

Everton are additionally close to ending their long-running search for a right-back, with Kenny Tete a possible arrival from Fulham. The move could cost around £9m.

Beto could be on his way out of Everton.

However, Everton decided not to sell teenage midfielder Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest following a backlash from supporters. Manager David Moyes also suggested he did not want Armstrong to leave, though he is prepared to approve Beto’s exit.

Beto has scored 25 goals in 113 appearances for Everton since joining from Udinese for £25m in 2023, and last season he competed with Thierno Barry for the centre-forward spot in Moyes’ side.
