The local language must have been studied under a recognized board.
Candidates holding equivalent qualifications from other boards are not eligible to apply for the GDS post.

How will the selection for GDS recruitment take place?
Candidates for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts will be selected based on a merit list generated by the system.
The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Class 10 secondary school examination.
For boards that award grades or points instead of marks, these will be converted into marks according to the prescribed procedure.
Subsequently, the percentage of marks will be calculated with precision up to four decimal places.
