New Delhi : Before Diwali, there may be some good news for Central Government Employees. Employee organizations have demanded from the government that the current limit of Rs 7,000 for calculation of bonus should be increased to Rs 21,000. If the government approves this demand, then the Diwali bonus of the employees may increase by around Rs 14,000. That means almost three times the profit compared to the current amount. However, the government has not yet taken a final decision on this increase.

Before Diwali, big news has come for Central Government Employees. If the demands of the employee organization are accepted, the bonus of the employees may increase by almost three times this year. Due to this, the bonus received by eligible Central Government Employees on Diwali may increase from Rs 6,908 to Rs 20,724. However, right now this is just a demand and the final order on this increase has not been issued by the government.
Demand for bonus calculation of Rs 21000
The National Council Staff Side Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) has written a letter to the Cabinet Secretary demanding to increase the limit for calculation of bonus. In a letter sent on August 27, 2026, NC-JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said that when the minimum wage level is being considered by the Central Government to be Rs 21,000, then the calculation of bonus should also be at least this amount. Dussehra which is on 20 October 2026. The organization wants that before this the government should issue necessary orders regarding bonus.

Central Government Employees are given a non-productivity linked bonus (Ad-hoc Bonus) equal to one month every year around Diwali. Its calculation is currently done on the basis of maximum salary limit of Rs 7,000. The formula used to calculate the bonus is 30.4 average days.

Rs 7,000 ÷ 30.4 × 30 = Rs 6,908
That means an eligible employee can get a bonus of around Rs 6,908.
What if the limit of Rs 21,000 is approved? Now understand the real benefit here. If the government increases the limit of bonus calculation from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000, then the calculation will be.

Rs 21,000÷ 30.4 × 30 = Rs 20,724
That means the bonus will be around Rs 20,724.
In this way, the employee will get approximately Rs 13,816 more as compared to the current Rs 6,908. In other words, the bonus can be almost three times.
Who will get the benefit?
This increase will be applicable only if the government accepts the demand of NC-JCM and issues a new bonus limit order. Therefore, at present, employees should not consider Rs. 20,724 as a fixed bonus.
NC-JCM says the current bonus limit is much lower than today's minimum wage and inflation. Employees' organizations argue that when the Central Government is fixing the minimum wages ranging from Rs 783 to Rs 1,035 per day for different categories of workers, then it is not appropriate to calculate the bonus only at the limit of Rs 7,000.

Demand to increase bonus in 8th Pay Commission also
The issue of increasing the bonus has also been raised by the employee organizations before the 8th Pay Commission. The All India New Pensionary Scheme Employees Federation (AINSPEF) has suggested a bonus of around Rs 26,941 based on a different calculation. But at present the biggest demand is to limit the bonus calculation to Rs 21,000.
How much money can employees get on Diwali?
Current system: around Rs 6,908
If Rs 21,000 limit is approved: around Rs 20,724
Potential additional benefits: Around Rs 13,816 i.e. if the government approves the demand, then this Diwali eligible central employees can get a bonus of around Rs 20,724. However, the final amount and terms of implementation will be clear only after the official order from the government.
