  • Although exports were hampered by the conflict in West Asia, Hyundai sold 54,000 units, breaking the all-time domestic sales record.
  • The company's popular Creta car and strong product portfolio continue to garner excellent customer response in the Indian market.
  • The company's domestic sales grew by 12.6 percent on a year-on-year basis in the five-month period from April to August.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has set a new record by selling 54,396 vehicles in August 2026, the highest ever in the domestic market, even as the war-like situation around the world hampers exports. 44,010 units were sold during the same period last year, compared to a growth of 23.6 percent this year. Total sales, including exports, stood at 65,796 units this month, up 8.8 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Compared to the company's exports, the local business i.e. domestic sales has performed much better. The company has recorded double digit growth in the Indian market, and the company has attributed its success to its diverse product portfolio. Especially 'Creta' car is in the forefront and its popularity is constant. The new generation model of the Creta will be launched in 2027 with interior and exterior changes, while the 'Venue' has recently been launched in a new avatar. In addition, Hyundai is gearing up to launch a new locally produced compact electric SUV with an eye on high volume sales in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal. The remaining sales recorded exports of 11,400 units last month.

Meanwhile, the company's exports were somewhat strained by logistical problems arising from the ongoing conflict situation in West Asia. This has affected the ability to ship vehicles to foreign markets. However, Hyundai has expressed hope that if the situation improves, the export situation will improve. Talking about this, Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India said,

“We have maintained a strong growth momentum in FY 2027, with domestic sales up 12.6 per cent in the April-August period. Our August domestic sales of 54,396 units are the highest ever for any August month, reflecting the popularity of Hyundai's versatile product portfolio. Although the conflict and geopolitical situation in West Asia affected overall exports in August, export demand in the coming months should improve if geopolitical conditions improve. We believe it will remain strong.”

The company also has a comprehensive plan to introduce new models and updates of conventional engines as well as electric vehicles by 2030.
