According to Canada's national news agency The Canadian Press, the Liberal Party has won Quebec's Chicoutimi-Le Fiord, Toronto's Beaches-East York and British Columbia's North Vancouver-Capilano seats. Prime Minister Carney described these results as a reflection of the public's confidence in his government's policies. He said this is a very important time for Canada and at such a time voters have expressed confidence in his government's plan.

The biggest upset of the three seats occurred in the Chicoutimi-Le Fiord seat of Quebec. Liberal candidate Daniel Gobeil won here. This seat was with the Conservative Party since 2018. There are aluminum industries, dairy farms and many other industries in this area. The ongoing trade dispute between America and Canada is having a direct impact on these sectors. Gobeil said after the victory that this result is important to maintain unity across Canada. According to political experts, this victory of the Liberal Party in Quebec may also be to Carney's decision in which he had decided not to pursue trade talks with America on August 21.

The Conservative Party's performance in Chicoutimi-Le Fiord was very poor. In last year's elections, the party had got about 34 percent votes on this seat, but in Monday's by-election, its vote share came down to about 13 percent and it reached the third position. Daniel Bellan, a political science professor at McGill University, called it a bad sign for Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. He said that these figures are a matter of concern for the party.

Trade relations between Canada and America are currently going through a tense period. Trade talks between the two countries broke down on August 21 when no agreement could be reached. After this, US President Donald Trump imposed 50 percent tariff on Canadian goods worth about US $ 20 billion. Canada also plans to impose retaliatory tariffs on American products. Along with this, Trump is continuously making statements about Canada. He has many times talked about making Canada the 51st state of America. Recently, Trump also signed an order to change the name of Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' amid his standoff with Canada.
