Automobile Desk: This year has brought a new gift of happiness for the country's leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki. In the month of August, a huge crowd of customers was seen at the company's showrooms, due to which a big jump was recorded in the sales figures. This boom, which came just before the festive season, has brought tremendous enthusiasm back into the Indian automobile market. Maruti Suzuki, which has emerged as the first choice of customers in the domestic market, has once again proved that its dominance on Indian roads remains intact.
According to the recent report released by the company, there has been a strong increase of 21.3 percent in the total sales of Maruti in August. During this period the company has sold a total of 2,19,220 vehicles. If compared with the same month of last year, then this figure was 1,80,683 units. This means that within just one year there has been a huge increase in the demand for the company's vehicles.

The biggest contribution to this excellent sales performance was from the Indian domestic market. There was a competition among people to buy Maruti vehicles within the country. Total domestic sales including commercial vehicles in the month of August reached 1,80,078 units, which is 34.3 percent more than 1,34,050 vehicles sold in August last year.
Talking about the passenger vehicle segment, Maruti's performance here too was commendable. The company sold 1,76,971 passenger cars in August, showing a straight growth of 34.8 percent as compared to 1,31,278 cars last year. The craze for Sports Utility Vehicles i.e. SUVs is continuously increasing among Indian customers and Maruti has benefited greatly from it. The company's sales in the SUV and utility segment increased by 46.3 percent to 79,045 units. Models like Brezza, Ertiga, Frontex, Grand Vitara and Jimny are being liked very much by Indian families.
On the other hand, the hatchback and compact segments have also played an important role in strengthening the sales figures. Sales of entry-level cars like Alto and S-Presso increased to 8,799 units from 6,853 units. A huge jump was also seen in the demand for popular vehicles like Swift, Baleno, Dezire and Wagon-R. Sales of this entire segment increased from 59,597 units to 77,166 units, which makes it clear that the demand for mid-range cars still remains very strong.
However, the company faced some slowdown in the international market i.e. on the export front. The number of vehicles sent abroad declined by 7.4 percent in August. Maruti exported 33,844 units during this period, whereas 36,538 vehicles were sent out in the same month last year. Despite this, overall exports for the first five months of the current financial year (April to August) have increased by 14.2 percent to touch the figure of 1,88,636 units.
Maruti Suzuki has crossed the 11 lakh mark by selling a total of 11,43,365 vehicles in the first five months of the current financial year (2026-27), which was 8,89,070 units in the same period last year. This rise, which came just before big festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and Diwali, is giving very positive signs for the auto sector. It is believed that this demand for vehicles will gain even more momentum in the coming months.
