Jonathan Kuminga spurning the Los Angeles Lakers was one of the more interesting developments in the offseason. The young forward was tendered a three-year contract worth approximately $12 million annually, but he ended up signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As every player in the league knows, it is definitely a different kind of experience playing for the Lakers. For better or for worse, no franchise has more hoopla around them than the Lakers, and that is the main reason why playing for the team is not for the weak of heart.

There is a lot of turbulence around the franchise on and off the court. Even right now, the Lakers are dealing with some ownership issues that are affecting the front office structure and actual basketball operations. Outside the hardwood, no other team gets more narratives spun around them than the Lakers.

At this critical point in his young career, Kuminga badly needs a stable situation where he will get the right guidance with as little outside noise as possible. The Timberwolves may not be as covert as they used to be thanks to their recent winning and Anthony Edwards, but they remain much more modest when compared to the Lakers.

For now, Kuminga definitely made the more level-headed choice by going to Minnesota. While that could change, the Lakers have some soul-searching to do given their not-so-impressive track record as of late when it comes to recruiting coveted players.
