Bilateral T20 series serve as crucial testing grounds for national teams fine-tuning their strategies and player combinations ahead of major multi-nation tournaments. As preparations ramp up for upcoming international engagements, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced India’s 15-member squad for the much-anticipated T20 series against Afghanistan.

The series will be hosted entirely at the historic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Although Team India will be playing on home turf, Afghanistan will officially serve as the host nation for the three-match rubber. The series kicks off on September 13, followed by the second T20 on September 15 and the series finale on September 17, with all matches scheduled to start at 7:00 PM IST.

Shreyas Iyer to Lead the Squad Featuring Youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The national selection committee has named dynamic middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer as captain of the side. While Iyer’s recent captaincy record has seen mixed results—including series losses against Ireland and England alongside a successful campaign against Zimbabwe—he will look to steer the team to a dominant series victory to build crucial momentum ahead of the Asian Games.

Adding immense excitement to the roster, 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has earned a coveted spot in the 15-member squad following stellar domestic performances. The squad predominantly features players slated for the Asian Games contingent, blending explosive youth with seasoned international experience.

Fitness-Dependent Inclusions: Bumrah, Sundar, and Others Under Rehab

A notable talking point in the squad announcement is the inclusion of several frontline players who are currently managing injuries. Key names such as premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and pacer Harshit Rana have been named in the 15, subject to their fitness clearance.

All four players are currently undergoing rigorous rehabilitation programs at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Team management has clarified that these athletes will only be cleared to join and feature in the playing XI once they receive an official green light from the CoE medical staff.
