Scott McTominay will undergo corrective heart surgery after Napoli confirmed that the midfielder has been diagnosed with a mild, benign cardiac arrhythmia.

The Serie A club said on Tuesday that the Scotland international is due to have a cardiac arrhythmia ablation using pulsed field ablation (PFA) in the next few days.

"Following the onset of a mild benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay will undergo corrective surgery using a cardiac arrhythmia ablation (PFA) in the coming days," Napoli said in a statement.

PFA is a catheter-based procedure in which short electrical pulses are used to target abnormal heart tissue and treat cardiac arrhythmias. It is a comparatively recent technique that is being used more and more in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

Napoli also said that McTominay is expected to be available again after the international break.

The 29-year-old has become an important player for Napoli since arriving from Manchester United in 2024, helping the club win the Serie A title in his first season and being named the league's Most Valuable Player.
