Bhopal. A scheme is being run by the government to make irrigation easier for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh. The objective of the 'Per Drop More Crop' scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is to promote more production with less water. Under this, eligible farmers are given government assistance on the purchase of irrigation equipment.

The benefit of this scheme can be especially useful for those farmers who want to adopt modern irrigation technology in their fields. A part of the cost of equipment is given to farmers as a grant as per the rules laid down by the government.

Up to 55% benefit to small and marginal farmers

Under the scheme, small and marginal farmers can get a maximum grant of 55 percent of the unit cost. Whereas for other farmers, there is a provision of maximum subsidy of 45 percent. However, it is important for farmers to understand that the subsidy is not calculated based on the actual price of the equipment in the market, but as per the unit cost set by the government. Therefore the final assistance amount may vary.

The amount will reach the account through DBT

There is a system of sending the assistance amount received under the scheme directly to the bank account of the beneficiary. That means eligible farmers can get grant through DBT i.e. Direct Benefit Transfer. This helps in maintaining transparency in the payment process and reducing the role of middlemen.

Which farmers can get the benefit?

The main focus of this scheme is to promote efficient use of water and modern irrigation system. Under this, irrigation technologies including micro irrigation are encouraged. The selection of farmers is done online as per the prescribed procedure. As per available information, eligible applicants can be selected through online lottery. No fee has been mentioned for the application.
