There was no relief for the common people and businesses from the beginning of September. On the first day of the month, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) were hiked. While the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder increased by ₹ 9.50, ATF used in aircraft became 5.46% more expensive. However, there has been no change in domestic cooking gas prices.
The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder used in hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments has increased from ₹ 2,738 to ₹ 2,747.50. The price of a 5 kg market price LPG cylinder has also increased from ₹ 762 to ₹ 764. This hike comes after two consecutive months of significant decline in commercial LPG prices. The cylinder became cheaper by ₹192 in August and ₹183.50 in July.
A welcome relief for the common man is that the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged. Currently its price is ₹942. Domestic LPG prices were last hiked by ₹29 on June 7. This time the prices of petrol and diesel have also remained unchanged.
According to state-owned oil companies, ATF prices have increased by ₹6.28 per litre. This has brought the cost of jet fuel to ₹121.28 per liter for domestic airlines. ATF prices were earlier hiked by ₹5 per liter on August 1. ATF accounts for a significant portion of airlines’ costs. As a result, a second consecutive price hike could increase cost pressure on airlines. This may also affect air ticket prices in the future.
