Australia ODI Squad: Cricket Australia has announced its ODI squad for the Zimbabwe and South Africa tour. Several key players have returned to the team. However, fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been included in the squad only for the South Africa series. Both players will not be seen playing in the series against Zimbabwe. Furthermore, Cummins, who led the team to victory in the 2023 ODI World Cup, has not been given the captaincy. They will play under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh.
Australia will play a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting September 15th, followed by a three-match ODI series against South Africa starting September 24th. These series will help Australia consolidate their preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The matches will be played on these grounds, hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
These players, including Cummins and Starc, returned
Fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have also returned to the squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe and South Africa. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head have also returned to the squad, having missed the Pakistan and Bangladesh ODI series. Marsh will captain the Australian team. However, no permanent captain has been named in the squad announcement.
It’s also possible that Marsh will lead the team on the Zimbabwe tour, while Cummins and Marsh will share this role for the series against South Africa. Cummins is the regular captain of Australia’s ODI team. Cummins has already made it clear that he will not play the three ODIs against South Africa. Therefore, Marsh will assume the captaincy duties for the remaining matches.
Marnus Labuschagne out of the team
Marnus Labuschagne has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe and South Africa. Labuschagne is currently going through a poor run of form. He also performed poorly on the tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh. For this series, the selectors have placed more faith in younger players. Therefore, young players Joel Davies and Ollie Peake have been retained in the squad. Australia has selected a 15-member squad for the Zimbabwe tour and a 17-member squad for the South Africa tour.
