East Zone have qualified for the finals of the Duleep Trophy. They defeated defending champions Central Zone by 4 wickets in the semi-final match which concluded on Tuesday. In the final, East Zone will face the winner of the other semi-final. Which will be played in Chennai from September 6.

East Zone was given a target of 159 runs to win at Ground-2 of the Center of Excellence, Bengaluru. The team achieved 80.1 overs on the third day of the Test match. Captain Ishan Kishan was unbeaten on 39 and Mohammad Shami on 8. Vice captain of the team Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an innings of 40 runs. Vaibhav scored 92 runs in the first innings with the help of 7 fours and 7 sixes. Earlier, after Central Zone lost 7 wickets for 95 runs, Arshad Khan brought the team past 150 runs with the lower order. However, the team was bundled out for 158 runs. Aman Mokhade scored 41 and Arshad Khan 25 and Harsh Dubey scored 24 runs for the team. Mukesh Kumar took 4 wickets and Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets from East Zone. Abhijeet Sarkar, Anukul Roy and Kunain Qureshi took 1 wicket each.
Shami’s achievement of 900 wickets in professional cricket
Mohammad Shami made a big record on the first day of the Duleep Trophy semi-final. Shami completed his 900 wickets in professional cricket by taking 3 wickets against the central zone. He became only the sixth Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Shami has achieved this feat at the age of 36.
