Newcastle United have completed the signing of Lille OSC winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo (21) in a reported €65m transfer, with both clubs confirming the deal. The 21-year-old wide player has joined the Magpies on a long-term contract. The Belgium international leaves Lille OSC after spending three seasons in northern France. Fernandez-Pardo had joined Les Dogues from Gent. He went on to make 71 appearances for Lille, registering 12 goals and 11 assists. Fernandez-Pardo will wear the No. 20 shirt at Newcastle United.
Fernandez-Pardo had been strongly linked with a move away from LOSC throughout the summer. Newcastle United emerged as the most determined suitor for the Belgium international, who featured at this summer’s FIFA World Cup. The Magpies were in need of attacking reinforcements after the sale of Anthony Gordon to FC Barcelona. Lille had already prepared for Fernandez-Pardo’s departure by signing Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda. Fernandez-Pardo could make his Newcastle United debut at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
