'What do you want to show with Jauhar?' Swara Bhaskar got trolled after her statement

After the release of the film in 2018, Swara wrote an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Now recently, during a panel discussion, he clarified on that letter and said that he felt uncomfortable with the way Johar was shown and glorified in the film.

Swara Bhaskar expressed her views on this issue in the panel discussion held during the 'Women Life Freedom' program at India International Center on Monday.

He said that he felt very uncomfortable after watching 'Padmaavat'. According to Swara, the way Johar was presented in the film, she felt as if the rape survivor was being presented with the option of ending her life as a respectable path.

Swara said that she had written the open letter at that time with very good intentions. His aim was not to hurt anyone's sentiments, but to raise questions on the message being given in the film.

'If I can't end my life then I am a coward…'

In her statement, Swara said that she was watching the story of Jauhar of about 800 women in the film. Seeing this, she asked herself what she would do if God forbid such an incident ever happened to her.

According to Swara, she felt that if she did not end her life, she would be considered a coward. He raised the question that at a time when the problem of incidents like rape is serious in the country, then what message is being given to the society by such a story.

He also said that his objection was not to the existence of the historical event of Jauhar, but to the way it was glorified.

Swara got trolled on social media after the statement

After this video of Swara Bhaskar surfaced, a debate broke out on social media. Some users criticized his statement and called it an insult to Indian tradition. While commenting, a user wrote that he has never heard a more 'stupid comment' on Johar.

However, reactions also came in support of Swara's statement. This is not the first time that Swara's statement regarding 'Padmaavat' has come into controversy.
