Amravati, 02 September 2026: A sad and shocking news has come to light from Palavaram district of Andhra Pradesh. A seven-year-old girl has died after consuming chloroquine tablets prescribed to fight malaria, while 52 other people have fallen ill and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals and local health centres. Following this heart-wrenching incident, the entire area is reeling under shock.

According to officials, 71 people in Gollaguppa village of Palavadam district, located on the inter-state border with Telangana, were given anti-malaria tablets to protect themselves from malaria.

Health started deteriorating immediately after taking the medicine

According to reports, the health of many people started deteriorating shortly after taking the medicine. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation, the administration took immediate action and admitted 29 patients to Telangana hospital, while 24 patients were admitted to the nearby health centre.

After this incident, Madivi Jamuna, a seven-year-old girl studying in the second class, died during treatment. According to doctors, the condition of other patients is quite stable at present.

Steps taken by administration and government

Keeping in mind the seriousness of the incident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sought a detailed report from the officials and has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. Additionally, instructions have also been given to ensure that the victims receive the best possible medical treatment.

An official investigation is currently underway into the actual cause of the girl's death, and the health department is working to determine how people's health deteriorated so severely after taking the drug.
