Swara Bhaskar said in the video shared on social media that the meaning of her comment which is going viral is being presented in a different way from its original point. According to the actress, she had not made any derogatory comment about Rani Padmavati. He said that if anyone wants to criticize him then he should do so on the basis of his actual statement. Swara also stressed that women who face rape or sexual violence have every right to continue with their lives.

The actress says that the purpose of her comment was not to insult historical characters or the decisions of those women, but to bring forward the questions that arose in her mind after watching the scene from the film.

‘I told you about the thought that came to my mind’

Giving the complete background of the controversy, Swara said that in a program she was asked about her old open letter written to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In response to this question, he told what kind of thoughts came to his mind while watching the climax of the film. According to him, while watching that scene, a question came to his mind that if a woman ever becomes a victim of rape, should the option of ending her life be considered the most respectable option for her. Swara clarified that she had stated this as her personal sentiment and not a comment on the character of Queen Padmavati or the women who committed Jauhar.

Swara raised questions on cinema and society

Along with her clarification, the actress also raised questions on the messages being created about women in the film and society. He said, can such a story or scene give the impression to the audience that a woman’s physical ‘purity’ is more important than her life? He also questioned why a rape survivor should be given the message that she should not have survived.

According to Swara, instead of making women victims of sexual violence feel guilty or inferior, their lives and struggles should be given importance. He appealed not to underestimate women’s will to live and their right to life.

However, Swara has now said in her clarification that the viral clip and its translation changed the meaning of her original statement.
