RAIPUR, Sep 2:
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted searches at seven locations in Chhattisgarh as part of a money-laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission examinations.
The searches were carried out in Bhilai, Durg and Raipur, including the premises of K K Chandrakar, a former personal assistant to former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, officials said.
The investigation stems from an FIR registered by the Chhattisgarh Economic Offences Wing and a subsequent complaint filed by the CBI in July 2024.
The case relates to allegations of corruption, question paper leaks and manipulation of the CGPSC selection process. Former PSC chairman Taman Singh Sonwani was arrested by the central agency in July in connection with the probe.
The ED has alleged that Sonwani conspired with public servants and private individuals to leak examination papers and manipulate selections in return for illegal gratification, including allegedly facilitating the selection of relatives and favoured candidates for senior government posts.
The agency has also alleged that the proceeds were collected in cash and routed through banking transactions and a family-controlled organisation under the guise of a CSR donation.
