Mitsubishi Pajero 2026: Mitsubishi has again launched its most popular SUV Pajero in the market in a new avatar. The company has made the global debut of the fifth generation Pajero. This name, which was discontinued in 2021 after nearly four generations and sales of more than 30 lakh units, is now making a comeback as a flagship SUV. The new Pajero has been designed with a ladder-frame chassis, four-wheel drive and diesel engine. Its sales will start first in Thailand. After this, it will be launched in Japan and Australia in the financial year 2026. Mitsubishi is planning to launch the new Pajero in the markets of about 100 countries from financial year 2027.
Kept the old style for off-roading
The new Pajero may have come out as a completely new model, but Mitsubishi has not compromised on its biggest identity i.e. off-road capability. The SUV has been provided with a high-rigidity ladder frame. It has independent double-wishbone suspension at the front and five-link rigid axle at the rear. That is, special attention has been paid to making it strong and capable even on bad and bumpy roads. The company’s Super Select 4WD-II system has been provided in the SUV. It has four drivetrain modes of 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLc. In these, 4LLc activates low-range gearing, which can be used in extremely difficult off-road conditions.
2.4 liter diesel engine and 480Nm torque
The new Mitsubishi Pajero has a 2.4 liter diesel engine. This engine produces maximum torque of 480Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system. Active Yaw Control is also provided in the SUV. This system helps in controlling torque distribution between the front wheels through braking. For off-roading, it has seven drive modes – Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock. Through these modes, the driving system of the vehicle can be adjusted according to different roads and surfaces.
230mm ground clearance, large size and strong road presence
The ground clearance of the new Pajero is 230mm. Its approach angle is 30.4 degrees, break-over angle is 22.6 degrees and departure angle is 25.8 degrees. These figures show that the SUV has been designed keeping in mind difficult roads and off-road conditions. Talking about the size, the length of the new Pajero is 4,920 mm, width is 1,925 mm and height is 1,910 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,870mm. Due to these large dimensions, its presence on the road looks quite powerful.
Modern touch found in boxy design
In the design of the new Pajero, the company has retained the boxy and simple identity of the old model, but has given it a modern look. The front has a large honeycomb grille, projector LED headlights and interconnected LED daytime running lights. Apart from this, the sculpted bonnet and strong bumper with gray skid-plate elements further enhance its rugged look. 20 inch black alloy wheels have been provided in the SUV. The black cladding around the squared wheel arches and side steps give it a muscular look. The Pajero name is written in black garnish on the front fender.
Changed style from rear also, spare wheel missing
Wraparound LED tail-lights have been provided in the rear design, whose design matches the DRL of the front. Pajero badging is given on the black panel between the two tail-lights. A major change from the old Pajero is that the new SUV does not have a spare wheel on the tailgate. According to Mitsubishi, the rear design has been inspired by the spare tire treatment given in the fourth generation Pajero.
New Pajero becomes premium from inside also
The cabin of the new Pajero has been made much more premium than before. It is being presented as Mitsubishi’s flagship SUV, so emphasis has been laid on modern features in the interior as well. Dual-screen setup is available on the dashboard. However, the company has not made everything dependent on the touchscreen. Physical controls are also provided for many important functions. The company says that the cabin has been designed with the aim of providing better comfort to all passengers. That is, an attempt has been made to provide a modern and premium experience in the new Pajero along with the strength and utility of the old model.
New Pajero will reach around 100 countries
Mitsubishi is presenting the new fifth generation Pajero on the basis of its three main qualities – Confidence, Comfort and Prestige. Its ladder-frame chassis and off-road capability are counted among its biggest strengths. The new Pajero will be manufactured in Thailand. Initially it will be sold in select markets and after this the company is planning to gradually expand it to around 100 markets across the world.
