Uber Jobs : Global ride-hailing giant Uber has announced a massive 10% cut in its workforce, a major blow to the corporate world. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dara Khosrowshahi confirmed the drastic decision in an internal memo sent to employees.
The layoffs, the company claims, are not due to any immediate financial crisis, but to streamline the organizational structure, eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic layers and speed up decision-making. Uber’s decision has once again raised concerns about job security among the global tech workforce amid an ongoing push for operational efficiency in the tech sector.
Job cut announcement
Cab aggregator Uber Technologies will cut around 10% of its workforce worldwide to streamline its operations. The decision is expected to affect around 3,400 jobs. Uber Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dara Khosrowshahi announced layoffs of around 10% of its workforce in a message to employees. The company is working to reduce management levels, streamline teams and concentrate offices in select cities, he said.
The company operates in 70 countries
An Uber India spokesperson said some employee roles in India will be affected, but India remains an important market for the company. The company is strengthening its regional operations in India to expand its business in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the company’s annual report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, Uber and its subsidiaries had approximately 34,000 employees. The company operates in over 70 countries and over 15,000 cities.
Thus reduction in the workforce
Uber has reduced management and coordination roles. The number of employees working seven or more levels below the CEO has been reduced by 20 percent, and the number of small teams of one or two employees has been reduced by nearly 50 percent. Additionally, the company is asking most remote employees to work from the office. The current hybrid policy requires working from the office three days a week.
