New Delhi, 3 September 2026: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has made India's stand very clear regarding the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) between India and America. He said in a program that this trade agreement will be finalized only when America provides better and more relaxed tariff benefits to India than its main global competitors like Vietnam, Bangladesh and China.
Addressing a special event to the Free Trade Agreement, Minister Piyush Goyal said, “As soon as the US government is able to give us preferential tariff rates compared to our competing countries, we will finalize the BTA and announce its details as soon as possible.”
The Minister had emphatically said that all the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that India has finalized so far have opened huge doors for the country's domestic traders and manufacturers to export globally. India is also going to sign trade agreements with other major countries and economic blocks to boost global trade in the coming months and years.
In the future, trade agreements will also be signed with countries and organizations like Canada, Mexico, Chile, Mercosur, SACU, GCC and Israel. It is noteworthy that 'MERCOSUR' is a major regional economic and trade organization of South America, while 'SACU' is the Southern African Customs Union. Apart from this, 'GCC' (Gulf Cooperation Council) includes six important countries of West Asia, with which India's trade relations are going to become stronger.
