Patna. In view of the possibility of flood, the Disaster Management Department of Bihar Government has appealed to the citizens of Patna and surrounding areas Bhojpur, Nalanda, Saran, Vaishali, Lakhisarai, Begusarai and Jehanabad to remain alert. According to the forecast issued by the Water Resources Department, the water level of Ganga river is likely to cross the highest water level at Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah (Mokama) in Patna district on the afternoon of 4th September.

Chief Minister took stock of Ganga water level around Patna

The Chief Minister along with senior officials assessed the sensitive places of Patna on the banks of Ganga. In view of the possible trouble to the people living in low-lying areas and the possibility of flood, he directed the concerned officials to remain alert and take all necessary precautionary measures.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for effective coordination between all concerned departments and directed the officials to keep all arrangements ready for relief and emergency response. He asked the administration to regularly monitor the embankments and other sensitive places and immediately report any sign of damage or breach, adding that no negligence in dealing with the situation will be tolerated and all necessary steps should be taken in advance to deal with any possible situation.

Chief Minister instructed the administration to deal with floods

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Thursday inspected the rising water level of Ganga river in view of possible flood situation and gave necessary directions to the concerned officials regarding relief and rescue preparations. During the inspection, the Chief Minister directed the officials to continuously monitor the potentially flood affected areas and ensure all necessary arrangements to ensure that the general public does not face any inconvenience.

The Chief Minister has written on the social site 'X' that while giving top priority to the safety of life and property, instructions were also given to the officials to carry out timely relief and rescue work, take people to safe places and maintain coordination between all the departments to disaster management.

Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary also reviewed the flood situation in various districts of the state through video conferencing at the Command and Control Center of the Water Resources Department and gave necessary instructions to the officials.

Disaster Management Department alert

According to the department, keeping in mind the possible rise in the water level of River Ganga and the flood situation arising from it, an appeal has been made to the citizens living on the banks of the river and in the low-lying areas, to exercise full vigilance and caution and not to take any kind of risk. The Disaster Management Department has said in its instructions not to go to rivers, ghats, embankments and low-lying areas unnecessarily. Children, elderly and disabled people should be kept away from rivers and waterlogged areas.

The Disaster Management Department (DMD) gave this information quoting the forecast of the Water Resources Department. DMD has appealed to the people living on the banks of Ganga and low-lying areas in Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Nalanda, Begusarai, Lakhisarai and Jehanabad districts to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movement around the river, ghats, embankments and other sensitive areas.

Advisory issued by the department

Avoid bathing or swimming in Ganga, unnecessary boat travel.

Advised not to do any risky activity around the river.

People should keep their essential documents, medicines, mobile phones, torch, drinking water and other emergency items ready.

People should be ready to go to designated safe places or relief camps.

The DMD has appealed to the people to rely only on government advisories and immediately follow the instructions of the administration and rescue teams in case of floods. The department said that in case of any emergency, people can seek help from the toll free number of the State Emergency Operation Center or the local administration.
