Questions over accommodation emerged after officials from participating cricket nations raised concerns about the arrangements for athletes. The Games will be held across Nagoya and the wider Aichi region from September 19, with around 17,000 athletes expected to participate. Unlike recent Olympic Games, the Asian Games will not have a conventional athletes' village. Organisers are using a combination of cruise ship cabins, temporary wooden container facilities and hotels to accommodate participants. Japan Cricket Association CEO Naoki Alex Miyaji said cricket authorities had been discussing accommodation arrangements with the Asian Games organising committee and the Asian Cricket Council for an extended period. According to Miyaji, cricket players and officials will be housed in hotels, while athletes from several other sports will be accommodated in more limited facilities such as cruise ship cabins and container-based hotels. The cricket competition itself will be staged at Korogi Sports Park, a converted baseball facility located around 40 minutes by train from central Nagoya. Temporary facilities are being created at the venue, including player and official areas. Concerns over the arrangements had reportedly reached India, with reports suggesting the Board of Control for Cricket in India was dissatisfied with aspects of the setup and could consider sending a second-string squad. India had initially named a 15-member team led by Shreyas Iyer, with teenage batting prospect Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also included. Miyaji acknowledged the challenges faced by organisers, pointing out that Japan had only around 17 months to establish cricket facilities for the Games from scratch. He said organisers had worked within strict time and infrastructure limitations to provide the best possible facilities for participating teams. Despite the temporary nature of some arrangements, Miyaji said players and officials would be provided with as comfortable an environment as possible. He also expressed confidence in the quality of the playing surface. The pitch is being prepared under the supervision of the curator associated with Sri Lanka's 35,000-capacity Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Miyaji said the playing surface and field could be the highest-quality cricket facilities seen at an Asian Games, giving the sport a strong platform during its latest appearance at the continental event.
