For the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s largest island off the southern province of An Giang received 7.8 million tourists, up 30.1% year-on-year and meeting 92% of this year’s target, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.

Statistics show that Phu Quoc welcomed more than 116,400 visitors during the five-day National Day holiday that ended Sept. 2, up nearly 43% year on year.
International arrivals reached 26,200, an increase of nearly 46%, driven by a range of activities and lower airfares.
Phu Quoc has also expanded direct air connections with destinations across Asia, most recently launching a direct route to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on Sept. 1.
The island eyes 8.5 million tourists including 2 million foreigners this year.
