Fernandez completed his move to City on Tuesday from Chelsea on a five-year contract.
He followed Elliot Anderson, Geronimo Rulli and Ayyoub Bouaddi in joining Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad, with Iliman Ndiaye also arriving on deadline day.
The 25-year-old comes to the Etihad with a formidable reputation as one of the most complete and gifted midfielders in world football.
A World Cup winner in 2022 and a Copa America winner in 2024 with Argentina, Fernandez also brings extensive top-level club experience from his time in his homeland with River Plate and Defensa y Justicia, and later in Europe with Benfica and Chelsea.
He is now set to play his role in helping Enzo Maresca’s revamped City squad challenge for honours.
By taking the No. 17 shirt at City, Fernandez follows in the distinguished footsteps of club legend Kevin De Bruyne, who wore that number throughout his outstanding decade at the club.
Before him, the shirt had also been worn by the likes of Sun Jihai and Martin Petrov.
