Avoid these routes from 3 to 8 pm today

Motorcade rehearsal will be held from 3 pm to 8 pm today as part of preparations for the BRICS Summit 2026 to be held on 12-13 September at Bharat Mandapam. In view of this, Delhi Police has made changes in the traffic system in many areas of the capital. Police have created 22 diversion points and implemented traffic management plans on more than 35 routes. In such a situation, Delhiites should definitely know their route before leaving home or office, because the traffic pressure on many major roads may increase and a jam situation may occur. According to Delhi Police, vehicular movement on some routes may be temporarily stopped or diverted during the rehearsal. Therefore, passengers have been advised to use alternative routes and take extra time to travel.

Avoid going on these routes

Traffic is likely to be affected on many major routes of Delhi during the motorcade rehearsal. Delhi Police has appealed to the people to avoid going on these routes between 3 pm and 8 pm and use alternative routes if necessary. Major routes affected by traffic include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashok Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjit Singh Flyover, These include Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Joseph Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

Advisory for Delhiites

If you are leaving home or office between 3 pm and 8 pm today, then definitely check your route before going towards New Delhi, Central Delhi, India Gate, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, Connaught Place, Dhaula Kuan and Bharat Mandapam. During the motorcade rehearsal, traffic pressure may increase in these areas and vehicular movement may be diverted at many places. During this time metro can be a better option. If it is necessary to go by car, then use the diverted route suggested by Delhi Police and leave home with extra time. Route plan for New Delhi and Connaught Place

During the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13, traffic may be controlled in several areas including Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharati Marg, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road and Tolstoy Marg. Commuters heading towards Connaught Place have been advised to allow extra time in view of the traffic, especially at Patel Chowk, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road and Mandi House corridor. On these routes, vehicles can be diverted to alternative routes as per need.

Be careful if you are coming to New Delhi from South Delhi.

Commuters coming from South Delhi towards New Delhi may also have to face traffic changes this evening. Vehicular movement is likely to be affected around Mathura Road, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Lodhi Road, Subramaniam Bharati Marg and Mandi House. Especially the drivers going towards Lodhi Road and Mandi House have been advised to use alternative routes.

Special plan for those going to Dhaula Kuan and airport

In view of the movement of BRICS representatives, the traffic system at Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh flyover and NH-48 corridor may also be affected. Traffic may be controlled or diverted for some time during the movement of the motorcade in these areas. According to the traffic advisory of Delhi Police, passengers going to the airport have been advised to use metro instead of road. At the same time, passengers coming to the airport from Gurugram side have been advised to use alternative routes other than NH-48 and keep extra time for the journey.

What to do if you have to go to the airport?

If you have a flight today and need to go to the airport, then leave home much earlier than usual. Delhi Police has advised passengers going to the airport and railway station to allow extra travel time. If possible, using metro instead of road can be a better option. During VVIP movement and motorcade, traffic may be suddenly stopped or diverted on some roads. In such a situation, to avoid missing the flight, plan your journey in advance and check traffic updates.

For those coming from Gurugram to Delhi

Passengers coming from Gurugram towards Delhi and the airport have been advised to leave only after observing the traffic situation on NH-48, Rao Gajraj Singh Marg, Mahipalpur flyover and the airport. If needed, motorists can use alternative corridors like NH-48 and Rao Tularam Marg. However, traffic pressure on these routes may also increase during VVIP movement, so it would be better to allow extra time.

Route for those going to airport from Dwarka

Passengers traveling from Dwarka towards T-3 or other terminals of the airport have been advised to use alternative routes like Sector-22, Dwarka Road and UER-2. During VVIP movement, traffic on Airport Road may be stopped for some time as per requirement. Therefore, passengers going to the airport have been advised to leave with extra time and be prepared for traffic diversions on the way.

Follow this route to reach the railway station

In view of the traffic diversion during the BRICS summit, Delhi Traffic Police has also suggested alternative routes for the passengers going to the railway station.

Passengers going to Old Delhi Railway Station can use the routes from ISBT Kashmiri Gate towards Ring Road, Hanuman Mandir, SP Mukherjee Marg and Rajghat.

For those going to New Delhi Railway Station, routes from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Marg, DB Gupt Road, Panchkuian Road and Outer Circle have been suggested as alternatives.

At the same time, the route via Ring Road, Ashram Chowk and Mathura Road can be used to reach Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Apart from this, the route from ISBT Kashmiri Gate towards Rajghat via Ring Road can also be an option.

What to do if you want to go to Bharat Mandapam?

Bharat Mandapam, the main venue of the BRICS Summit, and its surrounding areas will remain in the restricted zone from security point of view. There will be a ban on movement of normal vehicles here. General traffic will also not be allowed on Bhairon Marg and some roads around the main venue. Only authorized and pass vehicles will be allowed entry on these routes. If you have to go to Bharat Mandapam or surrounding areas, plan an alternative route in advance. Be prepared for traffic diversion especially around Bhairon Marg, Mathura Road and Ring Road. Those who have work at Bharat Mandapam will have to use the designated parking and drop-off arrangements. Private vehicles will not be allowed to enter the restricted area without authorized permission. In such a situation, using public transport would be a better option.

Metro will be the best option

Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the people to use public transport, especially the metro. Metro services are expected to operate normally, while traffic may be stopped or diverted for some time as per the need during VVIP movement on the road route. Therefore, people traveling in Delhi on 12th and 13th September have been advised to plan their journey in advance, keep an eye on traffic updates and leave home with extra time if necessary.
