BCCI can once again give a big responsibility to VVS Laxman. Today i.e. on Thursday, an important meeting of BCCI is going to be held in Mumbai, in which many big decisions are to be discussed.

VVS Laxman Head Coach: The news of VVS Laxman, former veteran batsman of the Indian cricket team and associated with the Center of Excellence of the National Cricket Academy, has once again got the responsibility of coaching Team India. According to reports, Laxman will play the role of head coach of the Indian men's cricket team in the upcoming Asian Games 2026. At the same time, the responsibility of captaining the team has been handed over to batsman Shreyas Iyer.

However, till the time the news of Laxman being made the head coach for the Asian Games came to light, it was not formally announced by the BCCI. In such a situation, the final confirmation regarding his appointment will be considered only after the official announcement of the Board.

Why did Laxman get the responsibility in the Asian Games?

The Asian Games is to be held at the end of this month. This time both men's and women's cricket will be part of the competition. The Indian men's team is scheduled to start the tournament directly from the quarterfinal stage. Apart from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have also got direct place in the quarter finals. Against which team India will face the quarter-finals, it will be clear after the draw and preliminary matches of the tournament.

The dates of the Asian Games are also clashing with the busy international schedule of the Indian cricket team. During the same period, the West Indies team will visit India, where ODI and T20 International series are to be played between the two countries. In such a situation, considering the busyness of the coaching staff living with the main team, there is a need for a separate coaching arrangement for the Asian Games team. For this reason, the decision to give this responsibility to VVS Laxman has come to the fore.

Have handled coaching of Team India before also

VVS Laxman has already played the role of interim or alternate coach for the Indian team. Even when the Indian team went on Zimbabwe tour, Laxman took over the responsibility of head coach. Apart from this, he has worked with the team on different occasions even in the absence of the head coach. It is this experience that makes his appointment with the Indian team for multi-sports events like the Asian Games useful.

Another important responsibility of Laxman is also to the Center of Excellence. Despite this, he has been a part of the coaching setup of the Indian team as per the need.

Sunil Joshi and Hrishikesh Kanitkar also in support staff

According to the report, experienced support staff will also be present along with VVS Laxman in the Asian Games. This includes the names of former Indian cricketers Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh. The Indian contingent prepared for the Asian Games includes both men's and women's cricket teams. In such a big international event, the role of strong support staff will be important for the technical preparation, fitness and tournament management of the players.

Captaincy will be in the hands of Shreyas Iyer

BCCI has already announced the Indian men's cricket team squad for the Asian Games. The command of the team has been given to Shreyas Iyer. This responsibility will be important for Iyer, as he has to lead the team in a tournament where India will be hopeful of a medal. Under his leadership, a team with a mix of young and experienced players can take the field.

Before the Asian Games, the Indian team will also play a three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan. Keeping in view the schedule between this series and the Asian Games, the workload and fitness of the players will also be monitored.
