New Delhi. The political tussle still continues on the issue of purification done after the meeting of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani. Now the Congress President has written a letter to Union Minister JP Nadda on this issue. Kharge reminded Nadda of his promise and reiterated his demand for filing of FIR against those accused of purging. Kharge wrote in the letter that even after 24 days, FIR has not been registered against the people and organizations responsible for this incident.

What did Kharge write in the letter?

The Congress President said in a letter to JP Nadda, 'This issue is much bigger for me than my personal interest or my role as the President of the Indian National Congress. It resonates with the emotions of millions of people who face this cruel reality every day. It is necessary to teach a lesson to people who commit such misdeeds.

Kharge appealed to Nadda to direct Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to lodge an FIR against the people who cleaned the stage. Kharge reminded that Nadda had assured him in the Rajya Sabha that FIRs would be lodged against people and organizations involved in the purification incident. Kharge said the incident was linked to his identity as a Dalit leader and raised the question whether such practices were acceptable in a democracy.

What promise did Nadda make?

Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and Union Minister JP Nadda said on the purification controversy, 'What Kharge ji said is really sad, not only for the Congress party, but it is sad for all of us. But we will investigate it. I assure you that whatever happened there will definitely be investigated. But I want to make it clear that BJP does not support such activities. I condemn it. The national president of the party will look into this matter. It is a matter of great regret to all of us that your feelings were hurt.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has rejected the allegations and says that it is not right to give a caste aspect to this incident. The BJP MP accused the Congress of trying to create division in the Hindu society.

What is the controversy?

In fact, on August 8, he addressed a public meeting in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. It is alleged that members of a right-wing group performed purification rituals at the same place, which was strongly criticized by Congress leaders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi linked it to untouchability and alleged that purification is another form of untouchability. Rahul Gandhi had also demanded registration of FIR against the people involved in this incident. Rahul Gandhi said that this act violates constitutional values.
