Bharat NCAP 2.0: The government is preparing to make big changes regarding the safety of people buying cars in the country. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the existing system of safety checking of cars in India will be further improved. Under this, preparations are being made to implement Bharat NCAP 2.0 from October 2027. Gadkari gave information about India NCAP 2.0 at the 66th SIAM Conference. He said that in the new system, rating will not be given only on the basis of crash test of the car, but the overall safety of the vehicle will be kept in mind.

There will be 5 types of crash tests in Bharat NCAP 2.0
Under Bharat NCAP 2.0, major changes will be made in the existing crash test standards. In the new system, cars will have to undergo five different types of crash tests. These will include frontal, full-width frontal, side, pole-side and rear impact tests.

In the new rating system, utmost importance will be given to the safety of passengers. For this, 55 percent weightage will be given to crash protection. At the same time, 20 percent weightage will be given for the safety of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users on the road.

Apart from this, aspects to accident avoidance and safe driving will also be made part of the rating system.

Focus will also be on post-crash safety
In Bharat NCAP 2.0, safety of passengers after accidents will also be given more importance than before. That is, how much protection the vehicle provides to the passengers after an accident and how effective is the rescue in an emergency, this will also be included in the safety assessment.

Along with this, active safety features like Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) will also get importance in the new rating system.

ESC and curtain airbags may be necessary
In the new system, it is proposed to make safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and curtain airbags mandatory to achieve star rating.

Additionally, the minimum safety score required to achieve a 5-star safety rating will also be increased in a phased manner over time. This means that in the coming years, automobile companies will have to pay more attention to producing cars with better safety features and stronger crash protection.

Bharat NCAP is getting good response
According to Nitin Gadkari, India’s indigenous car crash test program Bharat NCAP has been successful so far. Under this, more than 30 models have received certification and a large number of these cars have achieved 5-star safety rating.

The special thing is that along with Indian companies, foreign vehicle manufacturers are also sending their models for test and certification under Bharat NCAP. The Union Minister said that the Indian automobile industry will one day become the world’s number-1 industry.

Bharat NCAP was started in 2023
Bharat NCAP was launched in 2023 to improve the safety of cars in India and to provide clear information to customers about the safety of vehicles.

Earlier, more importance was given to the safety ratings of organizations like Global NCAP, Euro NCAP and Latin NCAP regarding the safety of cars sold in the Indian market.

Now through Bharat NCAP 2.0, the government is taking steps towards making the safety inspection of cars more comprehensive. With this, in the coming time, car buyers will be able to get better and detailed information regarding the safety of the vehicle.
