Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HM) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi was taken to Delhi for further treatment on Thursday after his health deteriorated again. Former Bihar Chief Minister Manjhi was recently admitted to Medanta Hospital in Patna after his health deteriorated.
However, his condition improved and he was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. According to reports, he developed fever again late on Wednesday night. After medical advice, it was decided to take him to Delhi for further investigation and treatment. Family members accompanied him during the journey.
Union Minister Manjhi is expected to undergo several medical tests in Delhi. The exact reason for the re-emergence of his health problems is not yet known.
His family members and party leaders are waiting for the results of the tests and further information from the doctors. The news of Manjhi's health has created concern among the political leaders and supporters of Bihar.
Manjhi has been politically active in recent weeks. Particularly regarding the issue of reservation and the demand for sub-categorization within the Scheduled Caste quota. Due to his stance, there has also been a public exchange of views with Union Minister Chirag Paswan.
Where Chirag Paswan has opposed any review of the existing reservation system. At the same time, Manjhi and HAM have supported sub-categorization to ensure that the benefits of reservation reach those communities who are considered the most deprived.
Manjhi has cited a 2024 Supreme Court judgment which said states can make sub-categorizations within the Scheduled Caste quota, subject to constitutional requirements.
He has argued that this judgment provides a basis for states to examine whether the benefits of reservation are reaching all sections of the Scheduled Caste community equally.
They have also argued that some communities have historically received a disproportionate share of reservation benefits while economically and educationally disadvantaged groups have been under-represented.
Citing the example of Punjab, Manjhi claimed that sub-categorization has resulted in redistribution of reservation benefits among different communities.
