The Karnataka government has issued a major update for beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. A fresh verification process for the scheme will begin on August 30, utilizing biometric and face authentication technologies.

A significant update has emerged regarding the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana, a scheme that provides financial assistance of ₹2,000 per month to women in Karnataka. The state government has decided to conduct a fresh verification of all beneficiaries. The re-verification process is scheduled to begin on August 30 and is planned to be completed within approximately one month. Technologies such as biometric and face authentication will be used to verify the beneficiaries’ identities during this period.

Door-to-door verification of beneficiaries

Government officials will conduct beneficiary verification through door-to-door visits. Additionally, verification facilities will be available at Grama One, Karnataka One, Bengaluru One, and Common Service Centers (CSCs)—also known as Bapuji Seva Kendras. Web and mobile applications developed by the Directorate of Electronic Delivery of Citizen Services (EDCS) will be used for this purpose.

Printed form to be provided during verification

During the door-to-door verification, beneficiaries will be given a printed enumeration form. The process will involve capturing the beneficiary’s photograph and recording the household’s GPS location via the application. The government has made the distribution and subsequent collection of the form, alongside the home verification, mandatory.

Verification at designated centers if not found at home

If officials do not find a beneficiary at home during their visit, the beneficiary need not worry about the verification process. Such beneficiaries can complete their biometric authentication by visiting their designated Fair Price Shop or the nearest Karnataka One, Grama One, or Bengaluru One center. Identification of Deceased and Ineligible Beneficiaries

The primary objective of the government’s re-verification process is to update the records of the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. During this process, deceased beneficiaries, those who have relocated, duplicate entries, and other ineligible individuals will be identified. Additionally, checks will be conducted to determine if a beneficiary or her husband has started filing income tax or GST returns after joining the scheme.

This re-verification ensures that the scheme’s benefits reach the women who need them most and helps prevent any irregularities or misuse.

₹2,000 Monthly, ₹24,000 Annually

The Gruha Lakshmi Yojana is one of the Karnataka government’s flagship welfare schemes for women. Under this scheme, eligible female heads of households receive financial assistance of ₹2,000 per month, amounting to a total of ₹24,000 annually. The funds are transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Which Women Benefit from the Scheme?

To ensure the financial assistance reaches the intended recipients, the government has established specific eligibility criteria. Benefits are provided to eligible women listed as the head of the family on Antyodaya, BPL, or APL ration cards. Only one woman per family can avail of this financial assistance. Under the rules, married women, widows, divorcees, and other eligible women are covered, provided they are listed as the head of the family on the ration card.

Families Ineligible for the ₹2,000 Benefit

Families where the head of the family or the husband pays income tax or files GST returns are not considered eligible for the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. The government aims to extend the scheme’s benefits to economically needy families through these eligibility criteria.

Linking Aadhaar with the Bank Account is Mandatory

The Grihalakshmi scheme amount is deposited directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT. Therefore, linking the Aadhaar card with the bank account, in accordance with the prescribed rules, is essential to avail the scheme’s benefits. Women can utilize the funds received under the scheme for household expenses, children’s education, healthcare, nutrition, and other family needs.

How ​​to Check if the DBT Payment Has Been Received

Beneficiary women can verify whether the Grihalakshmi scheme amount has been credited to their bank accounts. Facilities to check the status via the DBT Karnataka mobile application and SMS are available. The Karnataka government’s DBT mobile app can be used to track the payment status.

What Will Change After Re-verification?

Upon completion of the re-verification process, the government expects to have an updated record of Grihalakshmi scheme beneficiaries. This will facilitate the removal of deceased, relocated, duplicate, and ineligible beneficiaries from the list.
