All three opposition parties have made serious allegations of corruption against the Chief Minister and demanded his resignation. The Bharatiya Janata Party is raising the issue of 'cash for transfer' scam, the Congress is alleging corruption reaching the family and the Chief Minister's office, while the Akali Dal has demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Governor.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, in a press conference in Delhi, alleged that transfer postings of officers in the state are now being done on payment. The party has called it a 'cash for transfer' scam. Gaurav Bhatia cited the report of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Who is the mastermind of the scam?

Gaurav Bhatia has claimed that a kind of rate card has come to light in this report. It is believed that who will go to which post and how much money will be charged for it is already decided. Bharatiya Janata Party alleges that the name of Chief Minister's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Singh Ghumman is also linked in this entire matter. The party says that confidential government documents, draft lists of transfers and information about upcoming government policies were being shared on the mobile phones of brokers and middlemen. Gaurav Bhatia questioned how such sensitive information reached the middlemen.

Complaints lodged many times but FIR not even registered

Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that ED has written letters to Punjab Police several times, but FIR has not been registered till now. The party claims that this is happening because the allegations are to an officer close to the Chief Minister.

What does the opposition want?

Bharatiya Janata Party has sought resignation from Bhagwant Mann. There has been a demand for a CBI investigation. Questions have also been raised on Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira asked why Punjab Police is silent in this matter. He demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and alleged that corruption had reached his office and family.

There is a demand for CBI investigation

Bhagwant Mann's wife's name also came up?

The Akali Dal alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's OSD Rajbir Ghuman and his wife Gurpreet Kaur Mann took a bribe of Rs 5 crore to hush up two separate rape and kidnapping cases. The party also reiterated the demand for immediate resignation of the Chief Minister and registration of FIR against his OSD and wife.

Is the political chessboard set even before the elections?

Elections are going to be held in Punjab next year. In such a situation, these allegations are further heating up the political atmosphere. Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to increase its presence in Punjab. Whereas Aam Aadmi Party is calling these allegations a political attack. The matter is in the court and everyone is eyeing the further investigation. These allegations are still subject to investigation and court process. All parties have rejected each other's claims.

What is SAD going to do?

The Chief Minister's residence is going to be surrounded on September 5 under the leadership of Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. After this, protests will be held in all the assembly constituencies. Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that the protest against the corrupt government will continue until justice is provided.

Where did the idea of ED come from?

ED had filed an affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 1. It was said in this affidavit that CMO has been made a kind of market for transfers and postings of officers, government tenders, arms licenses and land approvals.

Questions raised from DGP to Finance Minister

The delegation said that even after the ED complaint, the Punjab DGP has not yet registered an FIR. He also said that the state Finance Minister publicly rejected this reference to ED as a weapon of the opposition. In the second case, the Akali Dal said that the name of the Chief Minister's wife appeared in a tape to the demand of Rs 5 crore in exchange for suppressing the FIR of rape and kidnapping. It is alleged that the accused in this case fled to America after being released from jail. He is a media influencer and businessman.

What is Shiromani Akali Dal demanding from the Governor?

Akali Dal requested the Governor to use the powers given under Article 167 and seek a report from the Chief Secretary and DGP as to why FIR has not been registered yet on the reference of ED.
