Tezzbuzz Desk- On the occasion of Janmashtami, there is a tradition of offering butter-mishri, panjiri and various types of sweets to Lord Krishna. However, now many people prepare different types of dishes to make Kanha's birthday special. If you are also thinking of trying something new in your Bhog this Janmashtami, then Shahi Cheesecake can be a good option.

The most special thing about this recipe is that you will neither need oven nor flour to make it. Its base is made from makhana, cashew nuts, almonds, melon seeds and dates, while the upper creamy layer is made from chenna, curd and saffron. Let us know the easy way to make it.

Ingredients for Royal Cake

For the cake base:

  • Makhana- 1 cup
  • Cashews – 1/4 cup
  • Almonds- 1/2 cup
  • Melon seeds- 1/3 cup
  • Seeded dates – 5 to 6

For the creamy layer:

  • Full-fat milk – 1 liter
  • Lemon juice- to curdle the milk
  • Curd- 2 to 3 spoons
  • Saffron – a pinch
  • Cardamom or nutmeg powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Fruit sweetener or jaggery – as per taste

For garnishing:

  • finely chopped pistachios

First prepare the cake base

Add makhana, cashew nuts, almonds and melon seeds in a pan. Dry roast them on medium flame for about 7 to 8 minutes. When the dry fruits and makhana become crispy, turn off the gas and let them cool completely. Now put the roasted dry fruits and makhana along with dates in the mixer and grind them coarsely. Take care not to make it a very fine powder.

Creamy layer will be prepared by kneading

Now heat one liter full-fat milk in a vessel. After the milk starts boiling, turn off the gas and slowly add lemon juice into it. After some time the milk will curdle and the chhena will separate from the water. Strain the curdled milk through a clean cotton cloth. Wash the chenna thoroughly with cold water, so that the sourness of the lemon goes away. After this, tie the cloth and place some heavy object on top, so that the excess water from the chenna gets drained out.

Make creamy mixture like this

Now put the prepared chhena in the mixer jar. Add curd, saffron, cardamom or nutmeg powder and fruit sweetener or jaggery as per taste. Blend everything until the mixture becomes very smooth and creamy.

Now set the cake

First put the mixture prepared from makhana and dry fruits in a cake mold or any deep bowl. Press it well with the help of a spoon, so that the base gets set firmly.

Now pour the prepared creamy chhena mixture over it and spread it evenly over the entire base. You can add finely chopped pistachios on top.

Keep the cake in the refrigerator for at least 4 to 5 hours. After it sets well, take it out and serve in desired shape.

Shahi cake is ready for Kanha's offering

That's it, without oven and without flour, your royal cake is ready. On Janmashtami, you can offer it to Kanha and enjoy this special sweet with your family. Due to saffron, cardamom and dry fruits, its taste will be quite royal and different.
