Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has opened up on Bradley Barcola’s transfer to Liverpool this summer.

The France international had looked like a highly promising talent when he first arrived at PSG, and while he produced some impressive displays from time to time, he never quite managed to become a regular starter under Enrique.

In the end, that appears to have been a major factor behind Barcola’s decision to leave and join Liverpool this summer, according to Enrique.

The PSG boss, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, said he wishes Barcola well at Liverpool after being unable to assure him of the amount of game time he wanted at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique said: “Barcola developed enormously in Paris, but he also helped the team develop enormously. He wanted more playing time than I could guarantee him. In the end, I think everyone comes out a winner from that transfer. I genuinely wish him all the very best.”

Some PSG supporters may be disappointed to see a player of this quality move on, but the club still have plenty of attacking depth to rely on, so it is unlikely to be a massive loss over the long term.

Barcola was not the central figure at PSG, but he could now take on that kind of responsibility after joining Liverpool, who were in urgent need of a marquee attacking signing to replace the legendary Mohamed Salah.

Last season was an extremely disappointing one for the Reds, with Salah enduring a drop in form that was perhaps understandable at his age.

The Egypt international eventually left on a free transfer this summer, but Liverpool appear to have secured a genuine star for the future in Barcola.

Still only 23, Barcola arrives at Anfield as a two-time Champions League winner, and he also made an impression with three goals for the France national team at this summer’s World Cup.

It will be interesting to see how he settles into Premier League football, but with his best years still ahead of him, it seems he has made the right move in an effort to kick-start his career.
