Kia has launched its new premium SUV Sorento in the Indian market. The company has kept its starting ex-showroom price at Rs 27.99 lakh. It has been positioned above Kia's existing Seltos. In the Indian market, it will compete with SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Volkswagen Tayron.
Kia Sorento: Design and dimensions
The length of Kia Sorento is 4,815mm, width is 1,900mm and height is 1,785mm. Its wheelbase is 2,815mm. The SUV has been given a boxy and premium design.
Its front has Kia's signature tiger-nose grille with vertical headlamps and DRLs. It has 18-inch alloy wheels. Vertical design tail lamps have also been provided at the rear. The company is offering Sorento in 8 color options, which also includes the option of all-black color.
The cabin is equipped with features
The cabin of Sorento has been made premium and technology-centric. Depending on the variant, it gets the option of a digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
Features like Kia's CCNC navigation system, Kia Connect 2.0, OTA updates, digital key, head-up display and generative AI assistant are available in the top variants. The SUV has been offered with two different interior themes.
The feature list includes front and second row ventilated seats, relaxation seats, 10-way electric driver seat, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, powered tailgate and 12-speaker Bose audio system.
Captain seats have been provided in the second row, which have the option of ventilation, recline and sliding. Sorento has the option of both 7-seater and 6-seater layout.
How practical is it as a family SUV?
The Sorento gets a three-row seating layout. It has been provided with many features like remote second-row folding, ISOFIX mounts in second and third row and many more for the convenience of passengers. For this reason, it has been presented as a useful SUV even for large families.
Kia Sorento: Safety Features
In terms of safety also, Kia has given many features in Sorento. The initial version comes with 7 airbags and a 26-feature safety package. Whereas in the higher version, up to 10 airbags and 28 standard safety features are provided.
The top model gets features like Level 2+ ADAS, 360-degree surround-view camera, blind-view monitor, remote parking assist, digital IRVM, front and rear dashcam and multi-collision braking.
Kia Sorento: Engine and hybrid powertrain
Kia Sorento is the company's first model in India, which has been introduced with strong-hybrid powertrain and AWD. Diesel engine option is also available in it.
The hybrid version has a 1.6-litre petrol engine and electric motor. The petrol engine gives power of 180hp and the electric motor gives power of 65hp. The combined output of both is 238hp. The hybrid model generates 265Nm of torque and comes with AWD.
Whereas the diesel version has a 2.2-litre engine, which generates power of 193hp and torque of 442Nm. In the lower variants it will be available with front-wheel drive, while in the higher HTX grade, AWD is given as standard.
It also has different drive modes and terrain modes to adjust the driving as per your need.
