Flood risk increases again in Bihar! The water level of Ganga in Patna is very close to the danger mark, Punpun river is also in spate.

Patna: The rising water level of Ganga and Punpun rivers in Patna has once again raised concerns. The water of both the rivers is continuously rising and the flood pressure has started increasing in many areas. Between 6 pm on Thursday and 6 am on Friday, an increase of four to 12 cm was recorded in the water level of Ganga at different places. In Shripalpur of Punpun the water increased by 24 cm in 12 hours.

According to the report of the Water Resources Department at 6 am on Friday, the water level of Ganga at Gandhi Ghat reached 50.36 meters. It was 50.31 meters on Thursday evening. That means there was an increase of five centimeters overnight. The water here is just 16 centimeters below the highest flood level. At the same time, Ganga is flowing 1.76 meters above the danger mark of 48.60 meters. Water has also increased rapidly in Hathidah. Here the water level of Ganga increased from 43.12 meters to 43.24 meters. After this increase of 12 centimeters in 12 hours, the water level is just 28 centimeters below the highest flood level of 43.52 meters.

What is the situation in Digha and Maner?

The water level of Ganga at Digha Ghat increased from 51.64 meters to 51.68 meters. Even after a rise of four centimeters, the water here is still 84 centimeters below the highest flood level. The situation in Maner remained stable for now. The water level was recorded at 53.46 meters both on Thursday evening and Friday morning. The highest flood level here is 53.79 meters, which means the river water is 33 centimeters below this limit.

Rapidly rising water in Punpun

The water level of Punpun river has increased faster than that of Ganga. The water level in Shripalpur was 52.92 meters at 6 pm on Thursday, which reached 53.16 meters at 6 am on Friday. Despite a rise of 24 cm, it is still 75 cm below the highest flood level of 53.91 metres. However, the river is flowing 2.56 meters above the danger mark of 50.60 metres. Due to continuously rising water level, problems have started increasing in the lower and Diara areas.

Monitoring has been intensified in Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah as the water is nearing the highest flood level. The department has asked the officers to remain alert. The possibility of crossing the highest flood level at Gandhi Ghat was also predicted.
