Patna. Preparations have started to connect the rapidly developing areas in Bihar with urban facilities. Along with creating new municipal bodies, the state government is going to take forward the process of area expansion and upgradation of old bodies. This process is expected to start after September 15. Before this, the Urban Development and Housing Department has sought proposals from all the districts.

The government has also issued necessary guidelines to the District Magistrates to prepare the proposal. In this, information like population of any area, its area, population density, boundary, boundary and police station number will have to be given. Besides, the data of total workers and people involved in agricultural work will also have to be included in the proposal.

Population will also be an important basis for the formation of municipal body. According to the prescribed standards, in special category areas, there is a provision for population more than 9 thousand and up to 30 thousand for Nagar Panchayat, more than 30 thousand and up to 1.50 lakh for Municipal Council and more than 1.50 lakh for Municipal Corporation.

The aim of the government is to connect small markets and rapidly developing areas with urban facilities. After the formation of new municipal bodies, it will be easier to expand facilities like cleanliness, water supply, drainage, garbage collection and street lights in these areas.

The department has directed the concerned districts to compulsorily send the proposal by September 15. After this, on the basis of the proposals received, the process of formation of new municipal bodies and expansion of existing bodies will be taken forward.
