The free-scoring defender has arrived in a transfer that was 18 months in the works.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old prospect Denner Evangelista.

The move for Denner had been in progress for a considerable period. Back in March 2025, Chelsea agreed a deal to bring in the youngster from Brazilian heavyweights Corinthians once he turned 18.

The teenager is understood to have joined Chelsea for €10million, with a further €4m in performance-related add-ons. Reports in Brazil also said the agreement includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause. Denner has signed a contract that will keep him at the Blues until the summer of 2034.

Chelsea’s official website, in confirming the transfer, said the “forward-thinking, left-sided defender” would link up with the club’s academy.

The arrival of the highly regarded teenager is another sign of Chelsea’s continued focus on identifying the best emerging talent in South America. Estevao, 19, has already shown signs of becoming a success at Chelsea, while the club also signed 22-year-old Argentina midfielder Valentin Barco from sister club Strasbourg this summer.

Other young South American players on Chelsea’s books include Aaron Anselmino, 21, and 19-year-old Kendry Paez.

Denner Alves Evangelista Pereira is generally known simply as Denner. He joined the Corinthians academy at the age of 13 and progressed through the youth system there, starring last year as their Under-20 side finished runners-up in the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Júnior.

The defender registered three goals and two assists during that run, including scoring the opening goal in the final against Sao Paulo.

A Brazil youth international, he was part of the Under-17 side that won the South American Championships last year.

Denner, who comes from Sao Paulo, is from a family with strong football connections. He is a cousin of Arsenal star centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who played in Brazil before moving to Lille in 2017.

Though he did not make his senior debut for Corinthians, his standout displays at Under-20 level, despite playing above his age group, drew the attention of European clubs and ultimately led Chelsea to secure his signature.

His goal in the final of the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Júnior, also known as the ‘Copinha’, offers an indication of what Chelsea may hope he can bring in the years ahead. He tracked a superb lofted forward pass, used his strength to beat a defender, cut inside and then fired a powerful finish in at the near post from inside the box.

In that competition, he emerged as one of the standout players of the tournament. He now joins Chelsea’s youth set-up amid considerable excitement.
