Manchester United have been clearly informed that their hopes of signing Harry Kane next summer are fading fast.

The 33-year-old is coming off the most prolific campaign of his career, having scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and the England national team.

The striker continues to be one of the most vital players for the Bavarian club, but with his current contract nearing its end, speculation over his future has continued to grow.

Kane’s contract situation has put several clubs across Europe on alert, with Manchester United especially attentive given their long-standing admiration for the England captain.

Indeed, many feel the Red Devils made a major mistake when they allowed Bayern to sign the prolific forward from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 without seriously contesting the move.

Ever since he moved to Germany, Kane has been linked with a return to England almost every summer. However, according to reliable German journalist Christian Falk, the striker is content in Bavaria and is expected to extend his stay by signing a new contract.

Falk wrote in his latest column for CF Bayern Insider: “I talked with Herbert Hainer, the club president, about the situation and everyone was saying, ‘relax’; everyone thinks a new contract will just be a matter of time,”

He added: “There are a few questions around contract talks that have to be cleared but everyone is confident that things will work out. I think in the next month – absolutely this year, not next year – we’ll see a contract announcement.”

As a result, the journalist made it plain that Manchester United will not be able to sign Kane, at least not in the near future.

Falk also said: “I’m really sure that Kane will put pen to paper on an extension this side of 2026. Then, Harry Kane is off the market for every other club for a long time. Sorry again to his long-time admirers, Manchester United!”

Although he may be the most lethal goalscorer in the modern game, Kane is already 33, and by the time he eventually chooses to leave Bayern, he could be 35 or even older.

That means United simply have to accept that their chance to sign the Englishman has already passed.

In Benjamin Sesko, the Reds have a dependable centre-forward who appears to have everything needed to develop into a top-class No.9.

INEOS should ideally have partnered the Slovenian with a more experienced striker capable of easing some of the pressure on him, and perhaps the club will address that area in January. But before doing so, they may first need to create room by moving on the seemingly surplus Joshua Zirkzee.
