70 million euro (769 crore rupees in Indian currency) arms contract with the Indian company, a big discrepancy! An Estonian minister has resigned due to this controversy. The European Union is also embroiled in the arms deal debate. What exactly happened? Why was the small European country buying weapons?
Ukraine has been at war with superpower Russia for a long time. The European Union has stood by Zelensky since the beginning. Estonian state news agency 'ERR' and other media reported that Estonia shot an Indian company for helping Ukraine in its war against Russia. The cost was covered by the European Union. Estonia paid a total of Tk 768.50 crore in installments to the Indian arms manufacturer as per the contract.
Allegedly, despite the money given to the Indian company, Estonia did not receive enough ammunition. Allegedly, the bullets sent later were of poor quality. According to the media, the company in India that was cited for manufacturing the ammunition had no experience in this matter. Recently, the investigation of the National Audit Office of Estonia also revealed this discrepancy. The debate began. In this situation, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur has resigned with all responsibility.
It should be noted that Estonia signed a contract with Datasel SRL in 2024 to supply artillery shells to Ukraine. Although this datacell is an Italian company, it was acquired by an Indian company called Neco Defense Munitions in early 2024. It is owned by India's Jaiswal Neco Group.
That is, India's 'friend' against Russia was using weapons made by Indian organizations in Ukraine! Which is geopolitically significant. However, the quality has caused discomfort along with Zelenskiy as well as Estonia and the European Union. Allegations of corruption have also been made against the defense minister of the European country and the Indian company. However, Datacell has denied all the allegations. The agency claimed that they had supplied most of the weapons before canceling the contract. Now unilaterally canceling the contract has caused them more damage. The most important thing, it came to light — Ukraine is using India's weapons against Russia!
